Sharing Smiles Klub 2012

The Sharing Smiles Klub

at

St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Academy

The Sharing Smiles Klub, in its third year, is a club dedicated to reaching out to our St. Stan’s family, friends, community of Greenpoint and others who may be in need.

Children in third grade, as part or their preparation for First Penance and First Holy Communion, work together on community projects for others. For example, last year we had various craft sales and used the money to make donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and New York City Rescue Mission. We made “treats” at special times for different classes in our school.  At Christmastime we visited Hour Children, an organization that provides care to children who may have mothers in prison. We donated various baby items that children from our school brought in. The year before, we visited the homes of three homebound women in the parish and sang Christmas songs. This year we have been working more closely with the Golden Ages of SSK.

Through helping others, children learn the true meaning of being Christ-like. It is always nice to put a smile on someone’s face! The children are often surprised at how serving others comes back to them when they too are rewarded for their efforts!

Currently our club consists of nine children from third grade and two children who have returned from fourth grade. We will continue to help others and have fun doing it! Continue to look for news about our club and all the smiles we share!
